This blog will answer some frequently asked questions about coronavirus disease. Without further ado, let's get to the queries. Team Kam Kaj hopes this information with help you understand coronavirus disease and prevent it.

Question #1: Is coronavirus a new virus?

No, coronavirus is actually a family of viruses. What we're dealing with right now is novel coronavirus, previously called Wuhan Virus. Many types of coronaviruses are found in human beings such as 229E, NL63, OC43, HKU1 and others. But COVID-19 diagnosis is more dangerous than common coronavirus diseases.

Question #2: What does COVID-19 mean?

'CO', 'VI' and 'D' stand for 'corona', 'virus' and 'disease' respectively. So, 'COVID' means 'coronavirus disease'. Number '19' signifies the year of its origin i.e. the year in which the first human (patient zero) was infected with it.

Question #3: When is it okay to step out of isolation?

You can step out of isolation when you have been tested negative twice for coronavirus disease. There should be a period of 24 hours between the two tests. But you can only test yourself if the normal symptoms of COVID-19 have already gone.

Question #4: Can we get coronavirus disease from mosquitoes?

No evidence suggests that ticks or mosquitoes can transmit this virus. You can get it from infected people and/or by touching infected surface.

Question #5: Am I in danger from coronavirus disease?

If you an old man/lady, you should be more careful these days. If you a heart or lung patient, you are at higher risk than other people. The same goes for diabetic patients or people with weaker immune system.

Question #6: Should I gather supplies against coronavirus pandemic?

Read Question #5 again. If you are at higher risk, only then you should gather supplies for yourself. Otherwise, there is no need to panic. Just be cautious. You can still go outside when you need to buy some necessary stuff. You can also donate blood to needy children. But that doesn't mean you don't need to observe social isolation. Stay home more often.

Question #7: Is soap better or sanitizer?

Soap is definitely a better option than sanitizer. You should wash your hands after coughing, sneezing, coming back from outside, using the bathroom or before and after eating dinner. Remember to wash your hands for 20 seconds. If soap isn't available, use hand sanitizer with 60% alcohol in it.

Question #8: Is it dangerous to be near a dead coronavirus patient?

According to CDC, it isn't dangerous to be in the same room with a dead coronavirus patient. But you shouldn't touch the corpse and stay 6 feet away from it. Let the hospital staff handle the burial rituals. Although, there is no evidence to suggest you can receive SARS-CoV-2 just by being near a dead body.

Question #9: Can my pets give me coronavirus disease?

Your pets cannot transmit coronavirus disease. They have their own coronavirus diseases which only affect them. Human coronavirus is contagious among humans only. So, you're not in danger from your pet cats and/or dogs. But, if you are a coronavirus patient, you should avoid contact with animals just like humans. SARS-CoV-2 is a relatively new germ and scientists still don't know a lot of things about its nature. Therefore, it's better to avoid any human-animal contact if you have tested positive for COVID-19.
